Michael Gray LeVitt is a product of mid-western America. Graduating from Purdue University, Michael sent time as a pilot in the Marine Corp, than worked in Manhattan, NY. While in Manhattan, he studied drawing and other fine art disciplines at Pace University and oil painting at the Art Students League. As part of his artistic development, Michael traveled to Belgium in the 80’s, studying in Brussels, Waterloo and Antwerp. In the 90’s, Michael lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He studied with many local artists and took part in critique groups and workshops, frequently traveling to the Santa Fe/Taos area to paint landscape and floral work. As a result of this exposure to the Southwest, Michael lightened his pallet and switched to watercolor as his medium of choice. He found that the images he enjoys painting, are done best in watercolor. |

As a result of this exposure to the Southwest, Michael lightened his pallet and switched to watercolor as his medium of choice. In the late 90’s Michael moved to Marble Falls and built a home and Studio on the granite outcroppings overlooking Lake LBJ just south of Granite Shoals. Surrounded by cactus, yuccas, oaks and cedar, Michael has incorporated Hill Country landscapes into his portfolio. He feels the dark, sharp shadows of the Hill Country, shooting across the bright pastel colored landscape creates a haunting mood that can’t be captured anywhere else in the world. Michael’s medium of
choice is watercolor. He also paints with oils if the subject
calls for it. Images he paints range from landscapes and floral
work to portraits, still life, and religious subjects. He also
accepts commissions on a regular basis. For several years Michael has been active in the Highland Lakes Community. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, sings in the choir and is active in other positions in the Church. He enjoys painting religiously inspired pictures and has donated several paintings to the Church over the past few years. Michael is also an active member of the Highland Arts Guild and Gallery, most recently acting as Advertising Manager. Each summer Michael donates his time teaching children in the free art lessons sponsored by the Highland Arts Guild. Judging Fine Art is also one of Michael’s activities. Each year he helps judge Faith Academy’s art competition and each summer he helps judge artwork for a College Scholarship awarded by the Highland Arts Guild. Michael’s art can be found in many Corporate collections and business establishments as well as individual homes in the community and throughout the nation. His work can be seen year round at the Highland Arts Gallery, Gallery Of The Hills, The Hill Country Lodge and at the new Java Bean Coffee House. Artist Medium Winsor&Newton transparent watercolor. Work is usually on 300lb or 140lb de’Arches watercolor paper. |
